From the valley station of the Penkenbahn in Mayrhofen, you go up to the 2,095 m high mountain. In summer, the FunSportStation is a popular meeting point. The mountain playground offers, among other things, a motor skills course and a climbing tower. The panoramic circular trail offers great views. The Penken caters to all winter sports enthusiasts: the brave plunge down the Harakiri slope with a gradient of 78 percent. Freeriders from all over the world gather in the PenkenPark. The Albert Penken descent delights families with fun obstacles.

Finkenberg Alpine Lifts

The Finkenberg Alpine Lifts consist of two separate cable cars that take you from the Zillertal to the Penken. A height of about 882 meters is overcome over a distance of almost 2 km. Your small journey starts in the village of Finkenberg. The Finkenberg Alpine Lifts are open all year round. In winter, they take passengers to the ski slopes and the family-friendly Pepis Winter Children's Land. In summer, families in the Zillertal look forward to Luis' Glacier Flea Park and the marble Spannagel Cave.

Nasenwand via ferrata

The Nasenwand via ferrata boasts as one of the most challenging in Tyrol and is recommended exclusively for experienced climbing enthusiasts. It runs along the mountain named Nase. It starts at an altitude of 1,030 meters and leads over 300 meters of elevation gain towards the summit. You should plan the tour along the via ferrata best in the summer months on a dry day. Allow approximately 3.5 hours in total for the ascent and descent. Foot stirrups and steel cables provide support on the wall.

Spannagel Cave

The journey to the Spannagel Cave is made with the Hintertux Glacier Lifts. Once at the top, you will find the unique show cave amidst a marble vein, which can be explored through various guided tours. Options include show cave tours, easy and sporty trekking tours including via ferrata sections. Right at the Spannagel Cave is the Spannagel House, where you can enjoy regional dishes in a rustic alpine hut atmosphere. Refreshed, you can return to Hintertux either by the glacier lift or through a roughly three-hour hike.

Nature cinema at Ahornsee

At an altitude of 2,000 meters and surrounded by the snow-covered mountains of the Zillertal Alps, you can experience the king of the skies at a spectacular flight show at the AdlerBühne Ahorn. Just a few meters from the idyllic Ahorn Lake with its numerous play and relaxation oases, various birds of prey captivate in what is probably Austria's most beautiful natural cinema.

Schlegeis Reservoir

One of the exciting attractions of the Austrian Zillertal is the 131 m high dam wall of the Schlegeis reservoir. You can extensively admire the technical masterpiece in the high mountains near Finkenberg, close to the border with South Tyrol, during a guided tour. Immerse yourself in the interior of the dam wall and experience the fascination of human construction technology.

Day 1

After you have rested a bit in your Austrian accommodation, start the day with an adventurous hike against the backdrop of the Zillertal Alps. An easy circular hike for the whole family is the Glocke Nature Experience Trail. About two kilometers lead you through shady linden and beech mixed forests. In the 70-meter-deep Tuxbach Gorge, the river rushes at your feet. A highlight along the way is the Devil's Bridge. The wooden structure has spanned the Tuxbach Gorge since 1876. From it, you have an impressive view into the gorge. You can spend the afternoon at the Finkenberg adventure pool. Relax on the spacious sunbathing lawn with a magnificent mountain panorama before diving into the sports pool. Meanwhile, the little ones enjoy themselves on the playground, the water slide, or at the waterfall. Exhausted and worn out, you then return to your accommodation or enjoy Austrian delicacies in one of the cozy inns.

Day 2

Today's program includes a trip to the nearby Fügen thermal spa. It is just half an hour away by car from Finkenberg. The whole family can relax in the various indoor and outdoor pools and enjoy the soothing effects of the warm thermal water. While the children have fun in the play area, the parents can unwind in the sauna area. In the afternoon, you continue to Tratzberg Castle, whose origins date back to the 13th century. In addition to the classic tours of the King's Room, the Habsburg Hall, and the Gothic Fugger Parlor, the three-dimensional virtual reality time travel is a special experience: you immerse yourself in historical events in the impressive chambers. Also exciting are the audio drama tours, where former castle lords guide you through the rooms. For children, the fairy tale tour is an absolute highlight. Together, the little time travelers go on a discovery tour with the queen, the emperor, and the castle ghost Tratzi.

Day 3

Today, an action-packed day is on the agenda: An unforgettable adventure is rafting on the wild Ziller River. Together with professional guides, it promises a wet and exciting experience through the spectacular gorge. There are rafting tours of varying difficulty levels, suitable for children from 6 years old. After this adrenaline rush, the Zell am Ziller leisure park invites you to all imaginable leisure activities on 45,000 square meters. Popular with young and old is the adventure mini-golf "The Treasures of the Zillertal." Each of the 18 courses leads to a special feature of the Zillertal. For a refreshing cool down, the adventure outdoor pool with giant slides and a wild water channel is available. At the boulder tower, on the tennis court against an impressive mountain backdrop, or playing beach volleyball, you can continue to exert yourself athletically. Children are drawn to the gold digger playground into adventurous worlds. With countless unique moments in tow, the journey goes from Finkenberg in the Zillertal back home.
