Wolfgangsee (Austria)

From Wolfgangsee to Schafberg

You start your hike from St. Wolfgang to the summit of the Schafberg at the parking lot at the Schafbergbahn valley station. The hiking trail is about 7 kilometers long. After just under 30 minutes, you reach the Aschinger snack station. After a short break, continue to the Schafbergalpe. From here, concrete steps lead to the summit of the Schafberg. The steps were specially constructed for Emperor Franz Joseph I. The higher you climb, the more enchanting the view becomes: let your gaze wander over the surrounding mountains and lakes. The highlight is, of course, the deep blue Wolfgangsee.

Fuschlsee (Austria)

Hiking on the Schober

You start the tour on the Schober from Fuschl or from the parking lot located below the Wartenfels ruins. A forest road leads to the ruins, then it goes steeply uphill. Surefootedness is necessary to overcome the rocks secured with steel cables. At the summit, the view of the Salzkammergut lakes is unique. On the Schober, you have reached the highest point of the hike at 1,328 meters. From here, it continues to the Frauenkopf, which is only 24 meters lower. From the Frauenkopf, it goes steeply down to a forest road. You hike down through the forest via switchbacks.

Untersberg - Doppler Stone

With its distinctive high plateau, the Untersberg can be seen from afar. The challenging tour starts at the hiking parking lot in Glanegg. You walk through a dense deciduous forest to the Lower and then to the Upper Rosittenalm. Here the path forks: you turn right to the Dopplerwand. Now you have reached the Dopplersteig. This is a steep path designed with many stone and wooden steps. A safety rope is available. After about 20 minutes, you have reached the Zeppezaunerhaus. Here you can refresh yourself with regional delicacies before continuing to the Untersberg cable car.

Gastein High Trail

With a length of 5.5 km and relatively few elevation changes, the Gastein High Trail in Austria's Gastein Valley is an easy hike. Due to its varied natural impressions and beautiful views, it is extremely popular with hikers of all kinds. It can also be easily extended. The hike begins at Bad Hofgastein and leads through beautiful flower meadows, idyllic mountain forests, and the interesting Gadauner and Remsacher gorges to Bad Gastein. Additionally, there are many opportunities to extend this short tour at the southern end as desired, including the Kötschachtal.

Hike on the Plombergstein

The 830 m high Plombergstein picturesquely towers over St. Gilgen at Lake Wolfgang. A climb during a vacation in the Salzkammergut should not be missed on a hiking holiday. The tour starts in St. Gilgen and runs via Steinklüftestraße to the Mondsee-Bundesstraße, which you cross. Now the actual hiking trail begins. Through the forest, you ascend to the Staffelgraben. Here you pass some steps and walk past the climbing garden. The path runs past majestic rocks to the summit of the Plombergstein. Through the Devil's Gorge and the Cold Kitchen, you return to St. Gilgen. In total, you are on the road for two hours.

Waterfalls of Mühlen (Ebenau, Austria)

Mühlenweg Ebenau

The mill hiking trail starts at the Waschl Mill. You can visit the architectural jewel. With a small detour, you can see the Pertill Mill. Via hiking trail No. 61, you reach the highest point of the hike, named Watzmannblick. Now follow the signs to Plötz. Along the rest of the route, there are five more mills. It goes along the Rettenbach into a gorge. In the deeply cut valley is the Plötz Waterfall. It cascades over several stages for 50 meters. The Hofbauer Mill, built in 1832, is within sight of the waterfall.

The mountain is forested up to its summit, providing a particularly idyllic and varied landscape. To the west, at an altitude of 1340 meters, lies the Bleckwandhütte, a popular starting point for hiking tours. Since the Bleckwandhütte is easily accessible by car and has parking spaces, it offers the simplest way to reach the summit. From here, it is only 3.6 kilometers up to the fantastic summit and back down. It thus offers a great opportunity to quickly experience a magnificent Alpine panorama.

Hike on the Drachenwand at Mondsee

The Drachenwand is a 1,176 m high rock wall in the Salzkammergut in Austria. It offers a magnificent view and from its height, an incredible panorama. Various paths lead to the summit. One of the most beautiful routes is considered to be the hike along the Mondsee. This merely 3 km long hike starts from St. Lorenz at the Mondsee and initially runs on normal paths through the splendid nature. The last section partly leads over ladders to the highest point with its grand view and definitely requires surefootedness and a head for heights.
