The Lake District

The Lake District, also known as the Lakes or Lakeland, is a beautiful mountainous region in the Northwest corner of England in the county of Cumbria. With a wealth of activities awaiting you and all the family. The stunning fells, tranquil hiking paths and towns/villages full of character and history will guarantee a truly memorable trip in the United Kingdom.

Activities in Lake District

The vast range of activities available in the Lake District cater for all abilities, so why not bring the whole family along for an adventure? If you are looking for an active holiday involving water sports, the Lake District is a perfect destination. The range of water sports is extensive, including boats for hire, so you can rent one for you and the family and sail across the glorious lakes. If boats aren’t your thing, you can always hire a kayak or paddleboard and experience the lakes from a different angle.  Renting a holiday home in the Lake District is the perfect way to explore this beautiful region from the comfort of your own space. Relax, take your time and explore!

Tips for hiking in Lake District

Or are you looking for peaceful walks in the fells? The walks range in difficulty, hiking through the hills with room to explore whilst also being able to suitably social distance!  Make sure you are prepared for England’s changeable weather.  There are also plenty of “low level” walks for the less-able.  Trails without stiles are preferable for those with limited mobility or families with young children in prams, so everyone can experience the beauty the lakes have to offer.

Lake District Surrounding Villages

Coniston Water/Coniston Village

Coniston Water is a lake situated within the Lake District, about 5 miles long and half a mile wide. Above the Western Shore, the beautiful mountain of the Old Man of Coniston towers above the lake and villages.

This peaceful lake is situated approx. half a mile from the village and here you are able to hire boats/bikes from the Coniston boating centre. There are many interesting shops, pubs and restaurants in this peaceful village, as well as a range of self catering accommodation and holiday cottages in Coniston and the surrounding area.

The Langdale Valley

The stunning beauty of the Langsdale valley stretches from the west of Ambleside up to the Langsdale Pikes.  Pike is the local term for peak. It splits into two valleys – Great Langsdale and Little Langsdale. This includes the lovely village of Elterwater, with its range of cosy pubs and various craft shops. Not forgetting a wealth of hiking routes, perfect for both beginners and those walkers with more experience.
