Fort Fuentes
Once the Spanish Fort of Fuentes, strategically located on a hill at Lake Como, served to protect the region. Today, the fortress is a remarkable monument of times past. During a visit, you immerse yourself in the fascinating history. The view from the fort offers you a unique perspective of Lake Como. Behind the ruins of the fortress, the snow-covered Alps rise. On hikes, you can explore the surroundings, such as the Pian di Spagna Nature Park.
Abbey of Piona
The monastery is picturesquely located on a peninsula jutting into Lake Como. A trip to the present-day Cistercian abbey takes you to impressive monuments and artistic frescoes. Visit the cloister, the chapter house, and the Church of San Nicola with its mighty bell tower. Two marble lions in the church date back to the 7th century. The large monastic library houses valuable old manuscripts. The monks' homegrown products are in high demand. The medicinal herbs and honey varieties are all guaranteed organic. The liqueurs distilled according to old traditions are famous.
Museum of Larian Boats
The Barca Lariana Museum resides in an old spinning mill in Pianello del Lario and offers fascinating insights into nautical worlds that extend far beyond Lake Como. In the exhibition, you will see hunting and smuggling boats, steamships, as well as racing catamarans and seaplanes. The collection includes historical photographs, documents, and around 400 boats. A special exhibit is the oldest Venetian gondola with a canopy. Also on display is the boat in which the significant British statesman Winston Churchill sailed across Lake Como in 1946.
Beach of Piona
Spiaggia di Piona is located in the small town of Colico on Lake Como in Italy and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the lake. It enchants with its particularly peaceful idyll and is ideal for families. In addition to the calm atmosphere and the gentle entry into the water, there is also a kite school and the opportunity to rent canoes. There is also good infrastructure and good service provided by a kiosk and a snack bar.
Fort Montecchio-Lusardi
Fort Montecchio-Lusardi is a unique military fortress in Colico, at the northern end of Lake Como in Italy. This fortress was built during World War I and is exceptionally well-preserved. Its main task was to monitor the roads. Situated on a hill, the fortress offers a panoramic view of Lake Como, the Pian di Spagna, and the Valtellina Valley. The fort is now a museum open to the public. You can visit the fortress and learn more about its history.
Path of the Wayfarer
The Sentiero del Viandante is a magnificent hiking trail by Lake Como in Italy. It mostly follows narrow former mule tracks for about 45 km from Lierna to Colico on the eastern side of the popular lake. The hiking trail is divided into many different stages and is therefore flexibly usable. One of the most beautiful sections is the stage along the Centro Lago, where the idyllic Lake Como can be seen in its full width.
