Old Town of Capoliveri
Narrow arched alleys, interlocking houses, and flying buttresses in the old town of Capoliveri bear witness to the traces left by the Romans, Etruscans, and Napoleon in the wine town. The center of the old town is Piazza Matteotti. On Matteotti Square, you can stroll through small shops and craft stores or stop by one of the wine bars or restaurants. You always have a view of the tower of the Church of San Michele, whose apse dates back to the 12th century.
Forte Focardo
The Fortress Focardo from the 17th century sits atop a rocky ridge steeply descending into the sea. It was expanded with a lighthouse in 1848 and is owned by the navy. Although it can only be viewed from the outside, the visit is worthwhile. You can reach Forte Focardo via the main road from Capo Perla. From Naregno Beach, you can walk along a pine-lined path to the fortress. Once at the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the island and the sparkling blue sea.
Beach of Naregno
Framed by two historical fortresses, Forte Longone and Forte Focardo, the beach of Naregno is a small treasure on Elba. Mediterranean plants such as pines, fig trees, holm oaks, and palms line the coastal section of fine sand with small pebbles. Families with children feel particularly comfortable at Naregno beach, as its shore gently slopes into the sea. Water sports enthusiasts get their money's worth with the sailing, surfing, and windsurfing school or rent canoes and boats.
Beach of Lacona
The 1.25 km long beach of Lacona is protected in the west by the Fonza peninsula and in the east by Capo Stella. The island of Montechristo, located off the coast, offers beachgoers a lovely view, which you can also enjoy while stand-up paddling. With its gently sloping shore, the beach of Lacona is well-suited for families with children who can splash around in the water without worry. Behind the beach, a pine forest provides shade. Adventurous visitors can engage in one of the many water sports, from windsurfing to diving.
Mineralogical Museum
The Mineralogical Museum is part of the Elba Mineral Park. You can find it in the Palazzo del Burò, a historic building from the 18th century. Huge halls house what is probably the most significant mineral collection of Elba, bringing the past to life. Experts in industrial archaeology reconstructed the mine with original materials. This now provides you with insights into the exciting history of iron extraction. Do not miss viewing the historical documentaries and photographs of the old mines of Rio Marina and Capoliveri.
Capoliveri Bike Park
The more than 100 km of bike paths in the Capoliveri Bike Park offer you unique nature experiences and riding fun on the Calamita peninsula. The routes lead through shady Mediterranean forests and historical mining areas, whose gentle hills resemble lunar landscapes. The reddish color of the soil indicates the copper deposits in the region. The sea shines blue on the horizon. Visitors can rent mountain bikes or e-bikes in the park to explore the fascinating landscapes of Elba on well-marked trails.
