Balatonfenyves - Must-see attractions
Fonyód
With its narrow streets, Fonyód has a romantic flair. Numerous restaurants invite you to stop by in the pedestrian zone. In summer, the open-air stage between the pier and the beach is a popular meeting point: theater performances take place here. Fonyód is perfect for a family vacation. Look forward to a well-maintained lawn directly by the water and a small sandy beach. A playground invites the youngest to let off steam. There is also a beach volleyball court and snack stands.
Saint George Hill
Saint George, also known as Saint George's Hill, is estimated to have formed 3.3 million years ago. It has a volcanic origin, which you can recognize by the distinctive basalt columns. These look like organ pipes. Several hiking trails lead to Saint George. The small town of Tapolca is a good starting point. A detour to the Basalt Organ Educational Trail is worthwhile, where you can learn interesting facts about the mountain's history. At the old mill pond, restaurants invite you to stop in after a hike.
Keszthely
The showcase castle of Keszthely is the Baroque castle, where historical objects from the 18th century can be admired in its rooms, including Empire chairs and tile stoves. From Balatonfenyves on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, it is only a short drive here. The magnificent U-shaped Baroque castle was commissioned by the Festetics, a noble family, in 1745. Next to it is the Balaton Museum with an archaeological collection in the town. Finally, an idyllic harbor and beach await you.
Hévíz
Heviz is located near Lake Balaton. The town is famous for its thermal lake, whose healing properties have been known since the late 18th century. The thermal water rises at about 40 °C - the water temperature is 24 °C even in winter. The romantic water lily is the symbol of Heviz. From April to October, you can admire it in full bloom. In the protective forest around the lake, you can learn interesting facts about the enchanting plant on the water lily nature trail. To the north, there is a treetop walkway.
Badacsony
Opposite the small town of Fonyód, built on two hills, stands Badacsony for outdoor enjoyment at the Hungarian Sea, as Lake Balaton is nicknamed. A nature trail brings you closer to the geology and plant life of the distinctive mountain. Along the way, fantastic panoramic views are repeatedly revealed. The extraordinary basalt columns of Badacsony are also worth seeing. At the foot of the mountain stretch wide, mineral-rich vineyards where the grapes of the well-known Badacsony white wines thrive. From spring to late autumn, guided wine tours including cellar visits, tastings, and 2,000 years of wine history take place.
Beach of Balatonfenyves
The gently sloping shore at Balatonfenyves Beach makes it easy to enter the lake. Children can splash around carefree in the shallow water here. Several playgrounds provide fun hours for the little beach visitors. Families like to use the large lawn for picnics. The pedal boat rental and the surf school provide variety. Both young and old enjoy sliding down the large water slide. During the day, cafes and restaurants offer snacks and refreshments in between, and in the evening, beach bars invite you to a sundowner at Balatonfenyves.
