However, the resort is best known for organising trips to Zermatt which can quickly become overcrowded and is more expensive to stay in.

You can purchase ski bus and lift passes and head up towards the beautiful Jungfrau from your base in Interlaken. This is a popular place to stay for many snow boarders, and access to the slopes can quickly be gained by the lifts which surround the area. Look out for the Top Ski lifts pass, and you are on your way. The entire Jungfrau region is well known for its excellent runs and challenging runs, but you can also find some beginner runs in the area.

It is also famous for its fantastic para gliding, and you can try your hand at the sport in Niederhorn.

If you don't fancy hiking around the area, you can let the train take the strain. You should not miss out on the wonderful views of the three main peaks which include Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch. Harder Kulm is a cableway which offers great views over the entire alpine landscape, and an ascent to the top should not missed out on. Along with many other activities, you can enjoy mountain biking and visits to the local limestone cave of St. Beatus.

Ice skaters are not always accommodate for, but a stay in Inerlaken will give you a chance to ice skate on the two lakes from December to late February. Organised ice skating tours can be arranged around the lakes, and if you have some experience ice skating, it could be the ideal opportunity for you to try something which you may not normally do on holiday. If you are feeling fit, you can even take part in the annual Jungfrau marathon which takes place in September each year. The area is after all well known for its extreme sports, and a range of trial activities are available at one of the many specialist outdoor centers. Perhaps you would like to have a go at mountaineering.

For the less energetic traveller, the region offers plenty of local festivals and village days. More than anything, it can be said that the Bernese Oberland comes into bloom during the summer, and even visiting the the many little villages in the area, can be an adventure in itself. The cuisine of the region is well known for its excellent local ingredients, and artisan chocolate shops seem to have sprung up everywhere to threaten your waist line. It is a very contrasting region of Switzerland, and with so much to see and do, you will probably find yourself returning to see what else Interlaken has to offer you on your next visit.
