Interhome through the decades
1965 – a vision for holiday homes
Founded by tourism pioneers Bruno Franzen and Werner Frey, Interhome (formerly Swiss Chalets) began with a simple idea: to offer travellers a temporary home in the Swiss Alps.
1975 – growth through merger
Swiss Chalets merges with another holiday home rental company and becomes Swiss Chalets-Interhome, laying the foundation for expansion beyond Switzerland.
1977 – renamed Interhome
The company becomes Interhome, reflecting its growing portfolio of holiday homes across Europe.
1980 – launch of computerised booking system
As a pioneer in tourism, Interhome launches an electronic data processing system, connecting all foreign offices online. Founder Bruno Franzen is considered a pioneer of the "paperless office".
1984 – a bird in flight as a symbol of freedom
Interhome introduces a new logo, with all local service offices unified under a single corporate identity.
1989 – a new chapter with Hotelplan
Hotelplan, Switzerland’s second-largest tour operator and wholly owned by Migros, acquires Interhome AG.
1998 – digital pioneer
As an early champion of digital transformation, Interhome launches its website, offering guests information, catalogue ordering and online booking.
2000s – rapid expansion across Europe
Interhome’s portfolio grows to over 20,000 properties, expanding into France, Spain, Italy, Austria and Croatia.
2008 – navigating the financial crisis
In response to the global financial crisis, Interhome introduces flexible booking options, dynamic pricing and a loyalty programme to remain competitive.
2011 – acquisition of Inter Chalet
Hotelplan Group acquires Germany’s market leader Inter Chalet, strengthening Interhome’s market position.
2019 – Interhome and Interchalet join forces
Interhome and sister company Interchalet operate as one company.
2022 – a record-breaking year
With 9 million overnight stays and a turnover of 371 million CHF, Interhome reaches new heights. "workation" – the blend of work and holiday – is added to the portfolio.
2024 – unified brand communication
The company now operates under a single brand in all markets. Interchalet transitions fully into Interhome.
2025 – 60 years of Interhome
Interhome celebrates six decades of hospitality, trust, innovation and personal service.
Under new ownership by Hometogo, the holiday home specialist continues as an independent company and a proud Swiss heritage brand.
