Climate

Small holiday village with 2'000 inhabitants, directly by the Lough Derg, 68 km south-east from Galway, 70 km north-east from Limerick. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. For arrivals by plane: airport Shannon (SNN) 90 km. Located west to the point where the River Shannon enters Lough Derg and features a number of harbours. it is a well-known tourist destination for boaters, golfers and anglers thanks to its natural amenities. Portumna Castle, a great semi-fortified house built before 1618, is now open to the public following extensive conservation work. The lake fringed Forest Park and Wildlife sanctuary offers beautiful nature walking and biking trails and birwatching.
