The north bank is bordered by the foothills of the Bakony mountains and offers varied and attractive scenery. The shoreline is sprinkled with clusters in the hills, amidst vineyards and orchards. Most of the holiday houses are situated on the hillside offering a lovely view of the lake. A short walk leads you to the lake-shore where there are many lovely sailing boats. Most houses have a -garden where you can lie in the shade under the trees when it is hot. Some holiday -estates are built near the water (Kenese, Vonyarvashegy, Szigliget). The north bank is steeper than the south bank and the water becomes rapidly deeper. This region is ideal for swimming. Numerous towns and villages can be found in the midst of vineyards (for example, Badasconyi Szurkebarat, Csopaki Rizling, Tihanyi Zweigelt). Wine can be tasted and bought in nearly all the resorts around the lake.
