The scenery in Upper Bavaria is varied and attractive. The highest peaks are located in the Bavarian Alps, the Zugspitze 1963 m above sea level and the Watzmann 2714 m above sea level. A little bit to the East are the Tegernseer peaks and the Chalk Mountains of Berchtesgaden opposite. However, it is also due to King Louis II that Upper Bavaria is known for its magnificent castles. Popular art is also very wide spread here and enjoys cultural exchanges with the city of Munich.
